Project Customization in Odoo

Unlike other ERP open-source softwares, Odoo helps in managing and customizing your project tasks efficiently. In Odoo, the Project module is integrated with many other modules such as Timesheets, Planning and External Services.

We will discuss most of the customization options which are available in the module. Let us now go to the Project module in Odoo, and then you will first see the Kanban view, as shown in the screenshot below.

It is a good summary of what’s going on with your various projects and their statuses. The first thing to do is to create a new project, by clicking on the Create button which is at the top-left corner of the screen.

Here, you are able to type-in the name of your project, for example let’s say “Project ABC”. Then, enable the functions required whether the particular project needs a timesheet or it should be a billable project by clicking on the respective checkboxes. And then, click on the Create button.

The Kanban view will appear which is given as blank initially, and here you can add whatever stages you would like, such as “New”, “In-Progress”, and “Done” to keep it simple.

Let us go back to the Project and see what else we can customize in the Project module. At the Project list viewed in Kanban, click on the three dots within the project item created by default under the To Do list which was named as Project ABC and click on Edit, as shown below.

Then you will see the general information to be added regarding your project. Since it is currently shown in an editable format, you are able to change the name of your project. Also you can change the name of the task for example, “Task A”. You can add the customer name here, and also add multiple tags by entering any keywords, and set a color of your own choice.

You are also able to assign a Project Manager, and specify the dates range on which the project will be worked on or you can have a deadline set at the end date.

Also we have the Description box, as you can write whatever you want. Since it is a dynamic field where you are able to customize a little bit. For example, with a forward slash “/”, you can put a header and type your heading line. Then we can add the checkboxes in the description box itself listing out the items that need to be done by initially entering the forward slash button and selecting the checklist, and then enter the list of items. The description is as shown in the screenshot below.

Then, after clicking on the Save button, you will see that the information will be updated in the chatter or the activity log at the bottom.

We have now modified and customized the project, then let us go back and move the project into the In progress status in the Kanban view.

As you can see, it is very clear and easier to use the dashboard in the Kanban view, where all the important information is displayed.

And finally, before the end we can add activities for people to perform from the Kanban view. We will click on the clock icon and schedule an activity.

While clicking on the “+Schedule an activity” button, a box will appear for the schedule, by typing the summary, and specify a couple of days before the weekend which is set as the deadline, and then assign it to the person in charge.

Then while clicking on the Schedule button, it will now appear on the To-do list.

Now we thank you for understanding the Project customization features, and how it has been a useful tool in the long run.
