Exciting New Features in Enterprise and Community Editions in Odoo 17 ERP

As Odoo 17 is now released, let’s take a closer look at the changes in the community and enterprise versions. This blog will walk you through the key improvements in Odoo 17 CE and EE, making your business operations smoother and supporting its growth thereby  simplifying your life. 

Visual appeal

Odoo 17 Community Edition gets a facelift! The interface, including templates and buttons, has a new and improved look. Default templates for invoices, quotes and marketing materials are now cleaner and more professional, following the latest design trends, making your work visually pleasing and user-friendly.

The  theme features are updated, they introduces lively app icons against a clean white background. Users can also opt for a cozy dark theme based on their preference, easily accessible through the ‘Dark Mode’ option in the user profile dropdown. It is available in EE but not in CE.

Search Bar

Odoo 17 brings a brand-new look to the search interface, making it better than ever.

Updated Action Menu

The ‘Action’ menu, once confined to the configuration form of each application, now takes a more prominent place in the latest Odoo version. You can access it directly from each menu homepage, allowing you to perform various tasks such as importing records, exporting data, accessing dashboards, spreadsheets, editing articles via the Knowledge Module, and more.It can also be accessed within the form view like the previous versions, with more options added like print, share, generate a payment link etc.

Creating Articles from the knowledge Interface

We can easily craft informative articles or notes within any Odoo Application. Simply select the ‘Knowledge’ option from the ‘Action’ menu.

To include a page view or link in an article, use the ‘Insert view in article’ or ‘Insert link in article’ options. Click on ‘Insert view in article’ to open a pop-up window. Once you’ve selected the view or link options, you can create new articles or pick from an existing list and begin editing them within Odoo’s Knowledge Module platform.

Effortless Record Selection with the ‘Shift’ Key

Record selection is made easy using the shift key.For instance,Upon selecting a record,we can select succeeding records using the “shift+ down arrow” keys. To deselect the records press “shift +Up arrow” keys.

Enhanced Kanban Experience

The updated Kanban headers bring better organization and quicker information discovery to lists and boards. With the new Freeze/Sticky feature, users can pin the header at the top of the screen, providing easy access even when scrolling down.

Smart Tab being Relocated

In the configuration forms, notice the Smart tab section now located at the upper right side of the form, above the Pipeline Stages tab.

Automations under actions

Odoo now offers an Automation setup in the ‘Settings’ icon close to Kanban Headers, enabling users to oversee and automate Pipeline Stages based on their requirements. This simplifies the process, as previously, the Studio Module was the sole method for configuring these procedures.

Draggable wizard

Unlike other versions, in Odoo 17 wizards are draggable. Users can conveniently move the wizard to their preferred position.

Selection key

Odoo 17 introduces a more user-friendly and efficient data selection process by incorporating the use of Shift keys. This enhancement simplifies the selection of multiple items or records in the application, offering a seamless experience and optimizing overall workflow.

PDF Quote Documentation

Odoo users now have the ability to generate and attach product documentation directly in the Sales Module. Clients can easily download, print and share this documentation upon confirming a sales order. Access this feature through the ‘Documents’ smart button within any product configuration form, as shown below.

Print PDF Quotations, Documents and Timesheets

Once you’ve added product documents in the Product Configuration form and created a Sales Order or Quotation with those products, you can easily download or print the documents using the ‘Print’ option in the ‘Action’ menu. We can use Odoo’s new feature to easily download essential documents like Sales records, Purchases, Quotations, Invoices, Timesheets and more.

Sales and purchase

1.Catalog: In the sales and purchase module, choosing products is made easier with the catalog option on the interface. This feature makes it easy to effortlessly add multiple items to the order line, improving e-commerce shopping experience to make it more user friendly.

2.Reporting: In the sales module of Odoo 17, you get extra reports that cover everything from sales numbers and salesperson performance to product insights and customer info. It gives you a complete picture of your sales data.

Inventory

Transfers: In the previous version, all inventory movements were grouped and logged under the ‘Transfers’ menu. However, Odoo 17 takes a more organized and specific approach by introducing separate menus for each type of inventory movement within the ‘Transfer’ section.

Invoicing

1.Reporting: In the invoicing module of Odoo 17, there’s a significant new feature – the introduction of an additional report called ‘Analytic Reporting’. It equips users with valuable information, fostering more informed decision-making in financial matters.

2.Bank accounts: Under the ‘vendors’ menu, Odoo 17 introduces a useful feature for viewing integrated bank accounts.

Employee

1.Remote Work: In Odoo 17, you can now set up remote work preferences for individual employees and access dedicated reports for streamlined management. This update also includes refreshed presence icons that indicate the remote work location of each employee.

2.Contract Expiry: In Odoo 17, you can now set notification periods for employee contracts and work permits. This feature helps you stay organized, ensures timely alerts and keeps your business compliant with legal requirements, making HR and compliance management easier.

3. Org Chart: A standout addition in the employee module is the new ‘Org Chart’ feature. It offers a detailed overview of your company’s organizational structure, visually displaying the connections between departments, teams and individuals. This feature simplifies the understanding and navigation of the organizational hierarchy for users,


CRM

1.Activity plan: In Odoo 17 CRM, you can now plan lead activities, helping your sales team schedule and manage tasks related to potential leads more efficiently. This feature improves engagement, boosts conversion rates and brings a more organized approach to lead management.

2.Time mentioning inside the status bar: This function assists users in monitoring the time spent on various stages of a project, activity or task. The time spent at each stage is displayed in the Pipeline Status Bar within the configuration form. Time is shown in various measures d, m, M etc.

POS

1.Kiosk Mode: POS module of Odoo 17 introduces a standout feature “Kiosk Mode”. This enhancement enables customers to effortlessly place orders by simply scanning a QR code, adding a convenient and user-friendly touch to the POS experience.

2.Product Combos: In Odoo 17, ‘Product Combos’ feature lets customers choose specific items from a set package at a discounted price. It gives them the freedom to customize their order while enjoying savings on bundled products.

Select product combos menu from the products menu,add products,add a new product with product type as ‘combo’,finally select ‘combo choices’ from the product configuration. Choose the product and the combo options will appear, letting us select the item at the special price.
